It’s Sunday and the cars in the church car park are bored, wondering why they have to come here every Sunday morning.
Then a voice from the shadows offers to tell them the stories being told in the church. “Would you like to hear them?” asks Old Mr T.
“On one condition,” the other cars reply…
So begins the adventures of Car Park Parables. A delightful collection of stories that Jesus told, but with a twist – cars are the characters!
Written especially for young boys more interested in cars than bedtime stories, they will delight boys and girls of all ages.
[A Message from the Author] The idea for Car Park Parables came to me while I was pondering this dilemma. My two and a half year old son Simon, was more interested in playing with his toy cars, than in me reading Bible stories at bed time. I wondered, ‘how can I get cars in the bible where there is an obvious historical problem?’ I can’t remember how long I pondered over this, but an idea was hatched, quite probably late at night when many of my ideas come; when I’m finally in ‘nothing’ mode and God can get a word in.
I imagined a bunch of cars parked at a church car park every Sunday morning, bored, bored, bored – as they would be. They would rather be out on Sunday drives. Just as most little boys find worship boring and would rather be running around outside.
From the shadows an older car, who has been around the block a few times, offers to tell them the amazing stories that are being told in the church – stories that could change everything! They agree, but on one condition – cars have to be the stars of the stories, not people.
I began writing the stories, buying some toy cars, building a model over the next month, much to my sons excitement. Slowly the stories took shape, a friend took photos of it all and I put them together in little booklets. My son loved them and I began to realise this idea was too big to keep to myself! Then I began the long road to publish. But that's what there all about - making the good news, good news to little boys, and anyone else who's willing to listen.
